After only few weeks of planning and preparation, BOI 2022 was officially opened yesterday, May 28. Co-Chairmen Prof. Dr. Till Tantau, Univ. of Lübeck, and Dr. Wolfgang Pohl, BWINF, welcomed 61 contestants from 11 countries, mentioning everyone individually by name. 13 more students are competing online, 6 of them forming the official delegation of guest country Israel. 20 team leaders are accompanying the contestants.
In the opening ceremony, Prof. Dr. Heinz Handels, Dean of the Sections of Computer Science / Technology and Natural Sciences (Universität zu Lübeck), and Prof. Dr. Andreas Schäfer, Dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (Technische Hochschule Lübeck) gave their keynotes. Both gave a special welcome to the delegation of Ukraine, which also received a long applause upon their presentation. Another guest of the ceremony was Dr. Gabriele Reich, representing BOI 2022 sponsor Lufthansa Industry Solutions. Andreas Hübner and Julie Janz, students of Johanneum zu Lübeck, were warmly applauded for their performance as a violin duo, enriching the ceremony in a remarkable way.
